The Type A-1 flight jacket was issued to USAAC (United States Army Air Corps) pilots in 1927 and was eventually replaced by the Type A-2 flight jacket by the early 1930s. Original A-1 flight jackets were made of capeskin but during the transition from Type A-1 to A-2, there were many different types of leather used. The Type A-1 Real McCoy MFG. CO. is our take on this rare 1920s classic, using vegetable tanned horsehide (pigment finished) from the Shinki Tannery in Himeji, Japan.
